Mindfulness + Movement Fundraiser

Hi friends,

Some of you know that last year was tough for me. To make a long story short, I was terminated from my day job after filing for 2 HR cases: one for sexual harassment and the other for workplace bullying.

I had panic attacks and anxiety ridden illness for weeks after. I struggled to feel safe and build relationships in the workplace for months. I became severely depressed and lost many relationships.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission did not consider my harassment to be "serious enough." I decided not to pursue litigation and was devastated.

I immersed myself in self care. I incurred thousands of dollars of debt paying out of pocket for mental and physical health care while job seeking. I cancelled several paid national performances to handle this situation.

I struggled to regain perspective on my struggle, feeling overwhelmed and isolated. I sought ways to slowly re-enter social circles and chose to pick up teaching dance again. I gave free and discounted movement privates to people who identify with various marginalized groups that I felt should have these resources more accessible to them (PoC, LGBTQIA, etc.) This allowed me to both give and receive in a space that I felt safer in.

During this time, I began to work more closely with my mindfulness practice. Under the guidance of Mikey Noechel and Andrew Chapman at Wild Heart Meditation Center, I am now in the creation phase of co-facilitating a book group for Mindfulness + Race and how it relates to the Dharma.

I am also currently building out a new movement class, "Bushi," dance and conditioning for the Warrior Heart, soon to be piloted and then brought into the larger community. This class integrates the mind and body through movement and breath-work such as Kundalini and Tai chi, over an ethereal beat.

This is an invitation to contribute to the growth of these new mindfulness and movement projects.  I see needs within myself and similar needs within my larger Nashville community. I'd like to make mindfulness and movement as accessible to Nashville as possible, most especially for those at intersections of marginalized identities. I'm hoping to launch these projects sometime around Summer of this year.

Your contributions will go to:
- Compensation for free or discounted privates given to PoC, LGBTQIA + other marginalized identifying movers.
- Financing investments made in deepening my mindfulness practice (retreats, 1:1 sessions with mentors, etc.)
- Financing movement classes (continued learning, certification)

Thanks for considering. I hope to see you at Wild Heart or at a movement class soon.
