Kirra - Raleigh Nicaragua 2017

Donation protected
Hello lovely friends, family and extended community,

I have been selected to take part in an extremely exciting opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and Costa Rica with Raleigh International later this year to work and live alongside remote communities, doing volunteer based humanitarian and environmental projects. Just one of the challenges of Raleigh is to fundraise money to contribute to the cause, so I need your help to take on this task!

Your donations, with my time and attempted manpower will help Raleigh to continue to create lasting change and to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities. I will be paying for my own airfares and equipment costs, so the funds raised will be directly injected into the communities I will be working with.

Past projects have focused on water sanitation and providing basic health services to communities. I’ll be aiding communities to improve access to safe drinking water, and raising awareness about the importance of hygienic practices. This could involve anything from building a clean water source, to educating the locals or building wells or classrooms.

Nicaragua and Costa Rica are rich in natural resources (Costa Rica hosts 5% of the entire worlds biodiversity), which are threatened by climate change. The environmental projects work to protect and renew these precious resources through reforestation, building aerial walkways or protecting endangered species.

Community development has always been something that I have felt passionately about. I have felt so lucky to have grown up with the privileges and comfort that come with living in a developed country, but have been drawn to learn more about the lives of those who have been less fortunate. Although I have travelled through third world/developing nations in the past, this has been through the eyes of a tourist, whereas Raleigh will have me living side by side with the local community. To slow the pace down, and really appreciate the way of life of other people. I feel it is so important for everyone to give back to the global community in whatever way they are able, to develop their connection and knowledge of the humanitarian situation in countries all around the world. We can then fully appreciate the gift of multiculturalism in our own country.
