Kindra's Cancer Journey

Stage 4 Cancer
Yes, this beautiful young mother has stage 4 colon cancer.  This invasive cancer belongs to someone who is older and has led a full life watching their children grow up.  But life is unfair, and now we watch this young lady struggle to be able to spend just a little more time with her 4 year old son, Kaiden.  Not only is she a single mother, she is a baby sister, daughter, cousin, niece, and friend to so many.  We all need to give her support, emotionally and monetarily, to see her live her life to the happiest possible end.

Kindra's Cancer Journey
Kindra was diagnosed last August.  At that point, not only was it in her colon, but was told by her oncologist that it was in her liver and lungs.  Kindra was told that surgery was not an option and that she was going to be doing chemotherapy the rest of her life.  Which wouldn't be long according to him, because he also told her that she would probably only live for a few years.   This was based on the experience of a doctor with good intentions, but who also had never seen a case of such invasive cancer in someone so young. Kindra was finding it hard to not only deal with the negativity, but to make the trips from Three Oaks to Kalamazoo while dealing with the sickness induced by the chemo treatments.

Hope! #buttsmatter
Recently, she received a second opinion.  This new doctor has extensive experience and has seen cases similar to Kindra's.  He did not put a time limit on her life, but gave her the hope she so desperately needed, along with a plan of action to see her through many years of a happy life.  She is going to begin chemo at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Farmington Hills, MI.  To do this she needs to move herself and Kaiden to that area. It will be hard on both of them moving away from all they know, but the hope of more time outweighs the short term hardships for Kindra.  It also insures that she will have the support of her sister, Cassie, to help get Kaiden to school and Kindra to her appointments, without taking Cassie away from her own family for extended periods.

Kindra's mental strength has not faltered through all of this.  She is stronger than most of her loved ones who are facing the possibility of losing such an amazing person.  She can crack a joke about cancer and laugh about the side effects.  Faced with death, she choses to live, laugh, and love through every moment.  Those that know her only wish we could muster the amount of positivity that she has.  What can we possibly do to help?  We can help give her a glimmer of hope.

Hope is what this page is about.  We need to raise money to give Kindra and Kaiden hope.  Hope for a treatment that gives her many years.  Hope to see her son graduate high school.  Hope that she has a death as good as her life.

Hope and laughter is the best drug to fight cancer.  We can't put a price tag on the hope she will have by moving across they state to get the best care she can get.  She can't work given her condition and pain.  She is waiting for disability to provide a least some means of support.  Meanwhile, her new occupation is Chemo Life.  Your generous support will give her the hope she needs to keep fighting.

Kindra will have direct access to all funds and the account will be overseen by Anna DeVries, her cousin and friend.
