Kindergarten rec. area - El Zonte

El Zonte is a small town in the Salvadoran countryside. The parental committee for kindergarteners (something like the PTA) have asked for material support to complete a recreation area for their children. Because El Salvador has two seasons (dry and rainy), the intensity of the sunlight and/or rain make it such that a playground without a roof can only be used at odd times of the day (which usually don’t correspond to recess hours). The parents have offered to volunteer their labor to build a roof, but they lack the material resources for construction. Parents have previously tried to build a structure using tree trunks and branches, but there weren’t enough resources to complete the project and the wood is now rotting (see pictures). They don’t want the structure to collapse on the children. I asked them to imagine a secure structure, and to then put together an ideal budget (see attached photos and cost estimates) and a cheaper budget that they still considered to be safe. The estimates vary by the quality of the roofing. Ultimately, the parents will figure out a way to build the structure using whatever donations they can obtain, but we are aiming for something that is safe and that will last. The beneficiaries of this donation would be the Salvadoran kindergarteners aged 4-6 years of age who attend public school in El Zonte, El Salvador. It will be useful for current and future generations of kindergarteners who attend the school. A budget and corresponding cost estimates are attached. The only overhead associated with the project is the gofundme payment processing fee. The parents are grateful for any donation you would be able to provide.
