Kimball Karnival + Reading Kickoff!

Donation protected
It's that time of year again, and the scholars at Kimball are more excited than ever for their summer reading!

The purpose of the Kimball Carnival and Summer Reading Kickoff is to combat the drop in reading performance after the break. This year our scholars returned to school with some of the highest reading scores in recent history.  Our DIBELS (fluency) scores were 6% higher than the beginning of last year; and our TRC (comprehension) scores were up a whopping 16%! It is safe to say that last year's summer reading kickoff was a great success.

To make sure we continue to build on those gains we have planned to make the event bigger and better! On Friday, June 3rd from 10am - 2pm we will be hosting the 2nd annual Kimball Carnival and Summer Reading Kickoff at Kimball Elementary.

The theme for this year is "Go For the Gold!" -- and that we certainly are.  With the help of community partners Hogan Lovells, Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, DC Public Libraries, and various other donations we have made it possible for ALL Kimball STUDENTS TO TAKE HOME 7 BOOKS OF THEIR CHOICE this summer.

Former Olympic speedskater Nathaniel Mills will host a day full of literacy, learning, carnival rides, live music, concessions, and celebration of summer reading!

We are working hard to make this event happen because our scholars deserve it.  We humbly ask for your support too! Last year we were able to raise $4,155 from 71 donations in under ten days!  We're asking that you continue to support the progress at Kimball.  Please reach in your pockets and... "Go for the Gold!"
