Kickstart for Kids Charity Swim in Oman - Nov 19

Tax deductible

Want to join me in making a difference?

On the 1st of June 2019 on a bitterly cold Ballarat evening I attended my year 12 - 40 year reunion at Ballarat and Clarendon College.

My good mate from school - Steve Coltman made sure I knew about the Reunion and offered me a bed for the night.

At the Reunion in front of others the conversation went something like this:

Coltman “Royal you and I were formidable swimmers at school”

Royal “Yeah Steve I think you would still have all of those bronze and silver medals in your bottom draw”

Coltman: “I think you should do a Swim Trek with me in Oman in November”

Coltman and I are both 6ft 1” and 57 years old – however he’s 87 kg and I’m 113 kg. Steve has looked after himself over the past 40 years – Kokoda trail July 2019 – swims 4 km weekly – attends the Gym daily.

Royal: not so good – a lot of lunches/wine and spasmodic training – hence the condition

Royal: “no problem good idea” – not knowing what’s really involved – however too late as committed

So after committing to Swim Trek Oman I thought if I’m to go through this much pain – 6km a day for 6 consecutive days – yes 36km - I should do it for a worthy cause – enter “ Kick Start for Kids “

Ian Steel – CEO and Founder and his Team at Kick Start for Kids has over the past 8 years delivered outstanding results for South Australia’s hungry kids.

In 2011, Kick Start for Kids was founded on the belief that every child, regardless of their social or economic background, should have an equal chance to succeed.

So we have the swim, the charity and I’m training - 50km in the month of July – now 108kg. I will fund all of my own expenses so your generous sponsorship will go 100% to “ Kick Start for Kids”.

I hope to raise as much as possible and with Individual and Corporate support let’s see what we can collectively do for the less fortunate Kid’s of South Australia.

More information about The trustee for Kick Start for Kids Charitable Trust: The main purpose is providing breakfast to children within their school environments (Over 35,000 per year). This enables the children to better engage in their education and teachers. Many children go to school without breakfast and this causes disengagement with the education system, restlessness and social issues. Mentoring is also provided by volunteers to children who are identified as being in danger of disengaging with the education system. Holiday camps are also undertaken for children who would otherwise have very little constructive activities to do.
