Jess World Championships 2015

My name is Jessica Olsen and I am a musher (sled dog driver) from Madison, WI. While I love to do many things, running sled dogs is by far my favorite. This year I have been selected to represent team USA at the International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS) Dryland World Championships. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete at the World Championships (which is much like the dog sledding Olympics). I will be racing with my dog Eli in the 1 dog bikejor class. (bikejoring is “dry land” mushing which is done when there is no snow to run a sled. A rider pedals and a dog pulls/runs as fast and hard as they can along an off road course). Mushing has been my passion since childhood and this opportunity is truly a dream come true!! Any donations to help me and Eli attend the race and afford the associated costs would be greatly appreciated!! Any money raised will go towards the gas needed for the 15 hour drive (from Wisconsin to Bristol, Quebec and back again), lodging for our stay when at the World Championships, and possibly team uniforms. Fun facts: I live in the city of Madison, Wisconsin, and I have three dogs Etan, Eli, and Susi. All three live in the house and enjoy “the good life.” Eli has a “boy’s” name - but she is a girl! All of my dogs are out of Nature’s Kennel in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In addition to mushing, I take my dogs with me fishing, camping, road tripping, to the Memorial Union in downtown Madison, and just about any other place I can! In addition to bikejoring - I enjoy dog sledding too. I find that having things to do in the fall and winter make those seasons as enjoyable as summer (that is saying something considering how long fall/winter in Wisconsin last)!
