Kaiya's Gender Confirming Surgery

In a Nutshell:

This isn't easy for me to post because I am so scared, but I just wanted to let you all know that I will be having surgery next month over Christmas. Not every trans person opts to have gender surgery, but I have done a lot of soul searching and have decided to do it. I am lined up and have a date but I can't afford to pay for my surgery deductibles. I am so grateful for this opportunity, for my Kaiser coverage, and for all the amazing support I've already received. Thank you! ❤❤❤

---------------------------------------------------------------

For those who don't know me, my name is Kaiya Kramer, I run a radio show called The Queer Life  - LGBT news, modern perspectives, roundtable discussions and interviews. I'm also a transgender woman and have been out full time since 2010. For me, coming out has been an experience of learning to love myself. Over these past 5-6 years I have grown so much not only as a person, but learning about myself as a woman.

As I stated above I am having gender reassignment surgery in the form of a vaginoplasty + labiaplasty on December 23, 2015. The surgery will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona with Dr. Meltzer and I will be in hospital for 9 nights. I'll then board an airplane and come home for the remainder of my recovery which is 1-3 months.

I do have coverage through Kaiser and Covered CA but my deductibles are $2500 for each surgery (both required). I will use this money raised to pay for my expenses and to have a healthy and stress-free recovery for the greatest change in my life.

I will need the funds by December 18th, 2 days before I board an airplane to Scottsdale, Arizona for my pre-op appointment.

As you may know, this surgery has been something that has been on my mind my entire life. I always wished that I had a vagina, but I say that without hate for my male-born body or my penis. I love my body, I love what it has given me, and I love what it's changed into. I go into this surgery with a renewed outlook on my life and a willingness to see what the future and my body may bring me.

The question I asked myself was, could I be happy without the surgery? Yes. But would I be happier if I have the surgery? The answer to that question is, I know I would be happier with the surgery.

Having this surgery doesn't make me any more or less of a woman than I already am, but it allows me to move closer to my own mental image of how I always envisioned myself.

By contributing to my surgery, you would be helping me achieve one of the greatest changes in my life. I would be beyond grateful to you for realizing that this is what's necessary for me.

Thank you for your consideration!
