I'm Julie Behrens, Imperial beach entreprenuer, mom, and dedicated community volunteer.
My family and I first moved to Imperial Beach when my husband was stationed to the Naval Base Coronado, and very soon after fell in love with the culture, atmosphere, and all of the people here. We absolutely love IB, we see the value in this community and are willing to invest the time and effort needed to make our home town the best it possibly can be.
Locally, I try to volunteer whenever possible. I own and operate an Imperial Beach-based lifestyle and parenting blog that I use to spotlight feature local businesses to help promote the economy and drive traffic to their shops.
I'm also currently involved with Traveling Stories, a non-profit that promotes engaging, social reading experiences that help kids fall in love with reading.
In a city where nearly fifty percent of our residents are hispanic, only one elected official speaks Spanish. As a Hispanic, bilingual woman, I realize the importance of communication and collaboration between all IB residents and recognize the issues language barriers create in our community. I hope to open the lines of communication to our Hispanic residents and promote a multicultural environment within our council chambers.
I am committed to helping our community prosper and with your help, we can get a normal, everyday citizen into city council to advocate for normal, everyday people.
