Chennai Flood Relief

My name is Janani Venkateswaran and I am student at University of California, Irvine. I was brought up in the breathtakingly beautiful city of Chennai. A city that always has smiles and where people will help you out whether or not they know you.
Recently this city has been pushed to its limits with incessant rains which resulted in flooding of most parts of the city. People have been stranded and many had to evacuate their homes and move to higher ground. This flooding has also claimed 269 lives so far (as of Dec 3, 2015) and the numbers keep increasing. Yet there has not been proper coverage by the national media and the army has only recently been deployed to help my city.
So I decided to start a fundraiser and help my city in whatever way I can.
Any amount you can donate will be useful especially because of the rupee dollar conversion. No amount is too less from $1 to $100 or more, please consider giving money to this cause. I have only donated money before but with this dire situation I think Chennai needs all the help it can get so I'm starting my own fundraiser.
I have contacted the founder of Environmental Foundation of India (EFI) and his name is Arun Krishnamurthy. They are located in Chennai and are putting together flood relief packages while also helping transport stranded people to safe locations. I will be transferring the funds to EFI. I will also personally email all of you donors with the details of how the was used and will be used.
With lack of electricity in the city it is hard to get in contact with organizations as of this moment but I have managed to establish initial contact. I will transfer the funds to them as soon as the goal is reached or depending on their need, perhaps earlier too.
This city will always be my home and it is where my heart is. I can't not express the amount of love I have for this city but if you personally know me, you would know that this city always is mentioned in my conversations. I will make sure the money goes to the right hands. Please help by donating for #ChennaiRains.
