Two foster children entered our lives at the beginning of November 2016. We are currently encountering potentially serious problems in the legal situation of our 3 year old boy. We are unable to provide many personal details due to legal and safety issues associated with foster care.
Currently, it seems that the government is headed toward sending him out of state for a permanent home. This sounds good, but the potential home is with people he has never met who are completely unrelated to him. In addition to being placed with strangers, this move does not seem to be in his best interest as it takes him out of the state, away from biological parent and sibling. We want to get involved and let the courts know of our concerns.
We are legally allowed to participate as a full party in his court proceedings, a legal process known as intervention. In doing so, we get the rights to participate in court, getting full information and putting forth our own.
We are proceeding on our own right now, but we will need an attorney very soon to give our foster-son the best chance at a future near his biological family. We met with an attorney recently who provided us much of this information. We were very impressed with his honesty, sympathy, and excellence. He has worked in many cases in Colorado that set the precedent for the very intervention we aim to do now.
Unfortunately, he requires a $3000 retainer to begin work and will probably need more before too much time passes. With both of us working as teachers, we don’t have the ability to put up the retainer by ourselves. We are trusting God to provide if this is what He wants us to do. Any and all money donated will go toward the expenses accrued by the attorney in working on our foster-son’s case for us.
We are proceeding by ourselves right now, but the sooner we can pull together enough for the retainer, the sooner we can have professional help in intervening and seeing that the courts get all the information for making the best decision for his future.
