Jonathan's Eagle Project Bridge

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Jonathan Hills and I'm an 8th grader at Westmoreland School.  I am also a Life Scout from Troop 18 based in Keene, NH.  I am working on my Eagle Scout project. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Boy Scouts and requires leadership of a significant project to achieve it.  I would like to ask you for your help in funding  the lumber for my bridge project.  My build day is coming up soon on Oct. 7th.

My Eagle Scout project will consist of ~ 100ft floating bridge over a huge muddy section in a trail and a 10ft fixed bridge over a wet drainage ditch in the same trail.  These bridges will be located off the Cheshire Rail Trail in the "Food Network" trail system. The "Food Network" is a new system of mountain bike trails located in West Keene, NH. The trail I am building on starts on the end of a popular trail and provides more single track for people to exit and enter the trail system on.  The bridges I am building are expected to increase the traffic on the trail, as well as make the trail sustainable for future use. My workday will be October 7th at 9:00AM. Please contact me if you'd like to particpate.  All are welcome.

Why this project?  I am a cyclist and have been around bike racing my whole life and I started racing when I was 7 years old. I have been in Boy Scouts since kindergarten. I put these two interests together. My Eagle Scout project is building two bridges on a mountain biking trail in Keene, NH.  To build my bridges I am working with the Brattleboro/Keene chapter of the New England Mountain Biking Association (NEMBA), with special thanks to Peter Poanessa and Mike Davern for their coaching and guidance.  Broader NEMBA has over 7,000 members making it the largest trail advocacy group in the country.   This project will benefit the broader mountain biking community, as well as help me acheive my Eagle rank in Boy Scouts.

How can you help?  To build this bridge I would like to ask for your support of my project in the form of funding to purchase materials. As you probably can guess, this project requires a lot of lumber.  Hamshaw Lumber (Keene, NH) has been very generous and given me a very helpful discount, but it’s still a lot of lumber and supplies and will cost over $700.   Your help is needed to make this happen, and I thank you ahead of time for your generosity.  Anything you can offer helps!
