DONKETREK 2015: "On a mission to create a better world for veterans and donkeys"
My husband Wolf, who is a Veteran of Iraq, is doing this journey in order to heal himself from PTSD.
Wise Ass Acres is a small hobby farm located in Cortez Colorado in the Four Corners Area. Four donkeys currently reside at Wise Ass Acres. Three are in training to complete a trek that will start in the Four Corners and wind its way through the beautiful State of Colorado. The plan is to start DONKEYTREK Spring 2015. The trip will last as long as it needs to last, however we are estimating 2-3 months. We will be walking while packing our donkeys down roads and trails. Our plan is to hit as many towns and cities along the way as we can in order to advocate for donkey welfare and Veterans’ welfare.
Our Mission Statement:
“This trip is about advocacy on behalf of both donkeys and Veterans. First, our mission is to educate and advocate about donkey behavior, donkey training, and donkey health. Second, our mission is to promote equine-assisted therapy through showing what donkeys (and all equines) can do for Veterans’ mental health and self esteem.” –Rachel Karneffel, Wise Ass Acres
Funds will do directly towards expenses for the trek. All extra fund not used for the trek itslef will be donated to Medicine Horse Center for their Veterans Therapeutic Riding Program.
