Medical Mission Trip to Costa Rica

Hi! My name is Caroline Jaeger and I am currently a sophomore undergraduate student studying medical biology at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.
After an application process and a round of interviewing, I was one of eleven students accepted into the International Medical Missions organization on campus, IMM(UNE). The purpose of this organization is to help families in poverty, educate them about living a healthier lifestyle, and to give undergraduate students pursuing careers in the health sciences an opportunity to take advantage of their role as educated scholars in an international setting.
With my acceptance into IMM(UNE), came the chance to travel to Costa Rica in the spring of 2018. During this incredible ten-day trip, we will be volunteering with local doctors in medical clinics which provide impoverished communities with basic healthcare services. While at these clinics, our team will be performing physical and dental exams along with other basic healthcare screenings. Also, we will be spending time with local children and educating them on the importance of basic hygiene such as bathing and brushing their teeth. In addition to providing education and health services while we are there, each member of IMM(UNE) will be bringing a separate checked-in suitcase full of medical supplies that will be donated to the communities that we travel to.
I am reaching out to friends, family, and anyone who is able to help support my involvement with IMM(UNE) and our trip to Costa Rica. Even though I will be paying a large portion of the cost on my own by working as an EMT and a waitress, I will still need help financially. The trip is very expensive and every little bit will go a long way. The money that I earn is not only for me to have this opportunity, but even more importantly, it is for the individuals that I will be able to benefit through this amazing medical mission trip.
