Jordan's Medical Fund

$24,535 of $50,000 goal

My name is Katherine. My husband, Jordan Vaughn, has recently been given a medical diagnosis that has shaken our world. A persistant cough brought him to the doctor, leading him to the results of Stage 4, Limited, Small Cell Lung Cancer. Being that he is only 26 years old and a non-smoker this is not only rare, but unheard of. As a young, newly-wed couple, we opted for a cheaper health plan alternative, thinking we would get a "real" one later on. With this health plan, we have to make payments out of pocket, and many before treatement. The healthcare group gets a copy of the itemized bill and we can get some of the costs reimbursed. We are in need of support in order to pay for these doctor visits and treatments. With this form of cancer, Jordan doesn't have much time to wait in-between visits. This is also going to be a long road of treatment therapy and more than we can afford on our own. My wife shared her latest blog about our cancer journey yesterday, and the reality of being declared terminal from a human perspective. I have never been one to talk about money unnecessarily, but this is one of those times. We have very closely depleted all of our GoFundMe in terms of what CHM will not reimburse, but also in the necessary deposits we have to pay. This is where the fun comes in: this ER/Hospital Stay/multiple outpatient surgeries deal we call this week was completely unexpected and followed right after a much larger payment we made.

Hospitals bill patients in two separate ways: the primary facility, in which most of the bills fall under (my stay, food, the overall surgeries, any medicines), and then the sinister private billing (dun, dun, duuunnnnn!). The private billing applies to any doctor that visited me who is contracted out, any radiology (x-ray, CT scans, etc.), anesthesiology, along with certain tests and pathology send-offs that fall under the oncology side. Where the first go into my credit account at the hospital and are not as overwhelming (I can keep renegotiating monthlies), the second come quick, in the mail, and want the payment within 21 days. I can't count how many of the things this week fell into that second category, but it was a lot.

Our finances are an OPEN book to anyone who has a desire to give but wants more detail. Please let me know. GoFundMe is definitely still open, or you can give through another means if it would be easier. At this point my prime concern is Katherine not being left with medical expenses that fall outside of CHM. Anything helps, and please don't hesitate to ask for clarification or details.

This week Jordan was diagnosed as terminal. Those this news has changed much, it hasn't changed our finances. Thank for all the support each step of the way.

Jordan and I cannot thank you enough for your support. Although this journey is far from over, this has been a huge burden off our shoulders. I don't think I could accurately out to words the relief of walking into the cancer center not having to worry about the finance side of treatment, just the treatment itself. That would not have been possible without y'all.

Jordan and I are blown away with the generosity. Your gifts take away a large portion of stress as we go into treatments.
