It's estimated that we use 60,000 plastic bags every five seconds; most of these are thrown away. But where is "away?" Plastics do not biodgrade. They break down into tiny fragments that can contaminate our soil and water. When plastic bags get loose in the environment, they become the eyesore that we are all so familiar with, clinging to trees and fences and littering our landscapes. Even worse is the danger they pose to marine animals, who can ingest them and become entangled in plastic debris.
The good news is we can do something about plastic pollution. We can clean up the mess we humans have created and stop using single-use plastc bags. Washington state already has 13 cities with plastic bag ban ordinances in effect. Please help us to add the cities of Kent and Covington to the growing list of municipalities with plastic bag bans in effect.
We need your help to educate our citizens, to teach them to care about their city and their environment and our neighboring Puget Sound.
Thank you!
