Jessica Scott's Story

This is a devastating story and battle that my Niece Jessica Scott has endured over the past 12 years, Many of you may know about the health issues Jessica has faced and struggled with for many years. But this is a way to give her a voice and tell her story. It all started in 2004 when they discovered a hole in her heart and after many years of her lungs overworking to compensate for the hole she required a double lung transplant as well as open heart surgery in 2010. After 3 years she got a severe infection and her body started rejecting the lungs requiring a second transplant in 2013. After her second transplant she has struggled with infection after infection. In August she was hospitalized with a severe fungal pneumonia that took her two months in the hospital to recover.
Just a few weeks later she got RSV which is a virulent respiratory virus. She has been hospitalized since Nov. 26 in medical coma on life support, a respirator to help her breathe and to keep her lungs functioning, and dialysis due to kidney failure . She is improving a little bit each day, we pray And watch to see if she recovers and is able to leave the hospital soon. Her mom has taken a lot of time off work to be by her side, along with much support from Her step Dad Will who has been able to keep the household together as much as he can as well as support at the hospital. Jessica's boyfriend Greg has been a savior and stuck by her side through all this, he comes to give her mom breaks making sure someone is always with Jessica. Going forward when and if she is able to leave the Hospital Jessica is going to need special home nursing care, physical therapy support at home, a nutritionist and much love and attention. Jess has been through so much the last 12 years so her 2 Uncles have started this fund to help with medical costs, lost wages, unexpected costs and bills, and not knowing how long Jessica will be with us just a way to make this incredibly hard journey and the unknown life she will have just a little bit easier and less stressful for her and her family.
