Jesse's Journey

$3,070 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 34 people in 13 months
Created April 9, 2018
On February 16, 2018, Jesse Anne Hunsaker was born to Joe & Aerial Hunsaker and her big sisters, Brooke and Piper.  Everything went great and everything checked out great with mom and baby.  So they went home 48 hrs later on Sunday, February 18, 2018.  By the following thursday, Jesse started having seizure like spasms.  They began to happen more fequently and for longer durations.  So at 4am Friday morning, Jesse's mommy and daddy loaded up the kids and took Jesse to the ER at Medical City Childrens hospital.  It was there that they discovered her Calcium was low.  That was the initial cause of the seizures.  Once they started to give her a calcium supplement, the seizures went away and she hasn't had one since.  So they ran more tests to determine what was causing the calcium to be so low.  They checked her other levels and determined her Albumin level was low as well.  Albumin is protein.  So that was contributing to the low calcium.

It was then that they diagnosed Jesse with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, which is a disease of the kidneys.  Jesse had to have daily Albumin infusions in order to keep the levels regular.  They also noticed her immune system was low so she gets an IVIG treatment once a week as well to bring up her immune system.  Jesse has underwent 3 different surgeries to have a pic line put in, and then a Broviac line (central line).

When Jesse and her family started this journey, they thought they had an insurance policy that would allow for them to make a short term disability claim for the time mommy (Aerial) is out of work since her company does not have a maternity plan.  They have since discovered that short term disability was not on the policy.  So thee have not had an income for her and they aren't sure when she will be able to work.  Because of Jesse's condition, mommy needs to be with her at the hospital and therefore can't work.  This means a two-income family with 3 little girls now has to try to figure out how to adjust to a one income family along with increased costs.  Daddy (Joe) visits daily and has to pay parking every day along with the cost of eating out in order to visit mommy and Jesse at lunch time.

Little Jesse and family have now been in the hospital for going on over 6 weeks and just learned that it's possible that Jesse will have to have one of her kidneys removed in order to try to slow down the loss of albumin.  This will mean more time at the hospital.  It also means that at about age 4 she will need a kidney transplant.

It is our goal to help raise money so that mommy and daddy's only worry is taking care of Jesse and not about the loss of income and the continued expenses that comes along with a hospital stay and not to mention there are two little girls that still need things.

Hopefully you can help out financially, however, if not, your thoughts are prayers alone would mean the world to this sweet family!

Sincerely,
The Friends of Joe, Aerial, Piper, Brooke and Jesse Hunsaker

Just trying to give a little update for Jesse. Jesse goes to the hospital every day except Saturdays and sundays to get albumin infusions. This has helped to increase her levels which we Praise God for. Unfortunately she is not growing so to help her, the drs, dietitian, and Aerial and Joe decided that after Christmas Jesse will undergo surgery to have a feeding tube placed in her belly. This will be her 7th surgery before she turns 1 year old. They aren't happy about it but will do whatever is necessary to keep their baby growing and thriving. They have also had to wait for Jesse's insurance to be reinstated. Medicade had decided to drop Jesse from her policy because they had missed completing some form from 5 months ago. There was no further correspondence since then so they did not know there was a form missing that needed to be filled out. They have since had to reapply for Jesse to be on Medicaid. They are praying she gets put back on it soon as the bills continue adding up. Jesse is fighting so hard and they and us are all praying hard! She's always so happy unless your not catering to her (little miss diva). She is constantly standing up and wants, so badly, to play with her big sisters. She now has 3 little teeth and knows how to use them! Please keep the Hunsaker family and especially little Jesse in your prayers and if you have the means, please make a donation to help this family as they struggle to make ends meet and keep on smiling and supporting their Jesse girl!

Jesse's Journey - April 23, 2018
(Jesse's Mommy)

We are beyond excited!!! Jesse's levels have stayed the same since Thursday and she hasn't had an infusion since last Tuesday! This means our and the doctors plan is for Jesse to be able to go home this Wednesday!!!! We will have close follow-up and blood work a couple times a week but she is now stable enough that we can go home without any infusions!! We are just so blessed! All the prayers, donations, everyone that has shared our story, it's just been so amazing and we can't thank everyone enough! We still have a long journey ahead of us but Jesse has showed us that our lives were not meant to be normal. This is just the beginning and even though we know she will need a transplant when she gets older, we know our God will be standing there holding her hand every step of the way!
Sweet Baby Jesse

Yesterday's Update from Jesse's Mommy:

The bacteria in Jesse's central line is now gone! Praise jesus! We have her surgery set up for tomorrow (Monday) at 11 am to have her left kidney removed. We are praying that this isn't going to overwork the other kidney. The recovery of this surgery is a few days and then they will monitor her levels for a week or so then we should be able to go home after that. I know we have asked for so many prayers over the last 2 months but if everyone could please say an extra prayer tomorrow for the Lord to guide the surgeons hands that would mean the world to us!

Tomorrow Jesse will be 2 months old! She has figured out she likes this new contraption and she likes watching tv! Her belly is swollen right now because that's part of having low albumin levels. She is very nosey and very dramatic! She definitely keeps us and the nurses entertained!
