Help Jellibean Normalize Disability

Donation protected
My story is titled “The Adventures of Princess Jellibean”.

Princess Jellibean is a very colorful cat who leaves her comfortable castle life to explore the world her mother has been reading about. On her first adventure she encounters clowns playing with children, some who have disabilities, and decides to play with them.

I feel strongly that children should learn early that disability is a normal part of life and nothing to be feared. This is the first of what I plan to be a series of books using Jellibean to promote a love of reading, kindness, overcoming fears, etc.

Book one has been published and I have finished writing two additional Jellibean books. In book two, she meets a possum with memory issues and in book three she meets a magician who is in a wheelchair who teaches her to use her imagination. I have plans for an additional book where Jellibean meets a child who is blind and teaches her to use the other senses to enjoy life. I am also planning a disability etiquette book for children.

My husband is legally blind and has always been my biggest encouragement with my writing. At work, I serve on the board of a group that represents people with disabilities and their caregivers. Normalizing disability is very important to me and I believe if we start with young children there will be less bullying.
