Jeannette’s Damn Socks & Bikes

Jeannette loved to raise money and provide for kids and families during the holidays.  I had the privilege to help her shop for Angel Tree items on more than one occasion over the years.  Her goal was always simple, every kid who wanted a bike should have one, and every kid should have socks.  Oh how we argued about the socks.  I often shred how I thought we cleared a whole section of Target arguing over spending hard raised dollars on those ‘damn socks’.   We had a rule though - we could say whatever we wanted to each other during these outings as long as you said ‘Fa La La La La’ after it ... think of it as the Christmas version of ‘bless your heart’.  Recalling the passion of our debates over those damn socks, brings a smile to my face. 

We lost J this weekend after a hard fought battle against cancer. This is our way of having her legacy live on for at least one more group of kids, so that they can have bikes and socks for the holidays.  We used to budget $100/kid to cover their Christmas wish list, so I thought 100 kids would be a fitting memory in J’s honor.
