Shimano Di2 WIRELESS prototype

Hello there! The name is Eric. Male, black hair, brown eyes, 5’-10.5” on a cold day. Enough about me; let’s get to the point.
The reason for this Walmart-blue themed page is to raise some ducats for building a wireless Shimano Di2 kit. Yes, I’m probably a little late to the wireless game, but hey! Better late than never! The goal of this kit is to make the current 6870 and 9070 wireless and open source, without the don’t-tell-my-wife price tag. Hacks like this are not around yet, simply because of Shimano’s use of a CAN (Controller Area Network) datalink, making it difficult for us muggles to decipher their wizardry codes without proper equipments.
Funds pay for:
Di2 components: main junction box. Knowing what’s been received by the front and rear derailleur is the first step. Best if I have the complete electronic groupset.
Electronic miscellaneous: A couple of Arduino Unos, CAN bus Shields, materials for building a transceiver. Expecting a lot more from this field.
Experimental components: If the Shimano motors won’t dance, pulling them out and stuffing in some servo motors, along with CNC’ed housings will be plan B.
Shimano revealed close to none, in terms of technical documentations, to the public. Thus, trial and error will be key making this project work. If this project does pull through, everyone who donated $50 or more will receive the kit for free. Making 6770 and 7970 11-speed compatible will be the next project!
