Jamie Driscoll's campaign to be North of Tyne Mayor

Hi, I'm running to be Labour's candidate for North of Tyne Mayor.

I’m a Labour & Cooperative councillor in Monument ward, Newcastle city centre, and love the diversity of people there. I joined the TGWU in 1986, and am now a Unite member.

My campaign is backed by Momentum.

I've already got the support of the majority of Constituency Labour Parties and Trade Unions. To be the Labour candidate, I need to win the one-member-one-vote ballot. So my team needs to be able to talk to all 8,000 Labour members in the region. That costs money, in calls, leaflets, room hire, web hosting and so on.

I'm a grassroots Labour activist, who volunteered on both of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership campaigns. I've run training for Momentum, ran Talk Socialism, and directed the People, Pits & Politics Festival. More about me here.

I'm standing on a strong socialist policy platform

If elected, I'll build cooperative houses on fair rent, that can't be privatised.

I'll set-up a People's Bank, owned by the people, that invests its profits in local projects.  We have to stop casino banking and money ending up in tax havens.

I'll implement Community Wealth Building, a programme of insourcing and making sure public sector money is spent with suppliers and contractors who pay the Real Living Wage and Trade Union terms and conditions .

Find out more on my website, follow the campaign on Facebook  and Twitter or volunteer.

Thanks,
Jamie
