Jacob's Never Stop Giving Sports Mitzvah

My name is Jacob Bennett. I am 13 years old and about to become a Bar Mitzvah. Rather than have a typical party to celebrate my accomplishment, I have decided (with my parents) to create a social action event for a disadvantaged neighborhood in Detroit.
The day after my service in August at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, my friends, family, and I will head to the Durfee School in Detroit. We have built a relationship and teamed up with Life Remodeled and The Durfee Innovation Society .
As mentioned on their website, “Life Remodeled has repurposed the former Durfee Elementary-Middle school building into the ‘Durfee Innovation Society’, which is a hub of opportunity for children, students and adults. Instead of creating new programs ourselves, we created a dynamic space for the best and brightest nonprofit organizations to move in, share resources and achieve greater collective impact.”
One of the organizations operating out of Durfee is the Metro Detroit Youth Clubs . Working with their staff and using my friends and family as volunteers, I will be running a Flag Football tournament for sixty 2nd and 3rd graders in the program. The Durfee School has an amazing gym and athletic fields for the kids to play. Unfortunately, most of the kids in the community do not have tennis shoes and cannot participate. My goal is to give every one of these students a new pair of shoes, a ball, and a chance to play like a kid.
This is where I need your help. As a part of the event, I am hoping to offer a “Pop-Up Sports Store” to gift the student athletes a new pair of shoes and either a soccer ball, basketball, or football to take home with them.

A $50 Donation will purchase a Pair of Shoes for a kid in need
A $180 Donation will put shoes on the feet of a family of three kids (and give them balls to play with)
