Jacob's Brain Balance Tuition

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My son Jacob is rapidly approaching his 4th birthday in July. Time has sure flown by! Jacob has turned into such a sweet, loving, curious, and energetic boy. He loves spending time outdoors and is such a social butterfly. He loves meeting new people and exploring! I cannot imagine my life without him in it.

Some of you may know this already, but for those of you who may not know or do not know the extent of it, I will now share why it is I am starting this Go Fund Me. Jacob was born premature at 31 weeks and spent 30 days in the NICU. His birth was traumatic and he had a grade 1 brain bleed when he was born. Due to his prematurity, he started Early Start Services through Regional Center at the age of 2 months until he turned 3 years old (child development services). He began speech therapy and occupational therapy when he was 2 years old and continues to receive these therapies 3 times a week. He has been diagnosed with a speech and language impairment, SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) and most recently, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), also called sensory integration dysfunction, is a neurological difference characterized by either a hypersensitivity (over-responsiveness) or hyposensitivity (under-responsiveness) to one’s surroundings due to the brain’s inability to properly integrate multi-sensory input. Children with SPD are so severely affected by their sensory preferences that it interferes with normal, everyday functioning. Children with hypersensitivity to sensory input may exhibit extreme or fearful responses to touch, textures, noise, crowds, lights, and smells, even when these inputs seem benign to others. Children with hyposensitivity to sensory input may exhibit an under-reaction or high tolerance to pain, may constantly and inappropriately touch or bump into people and objects, be fidgety, and are often characterized as “thrill seekers,” leading to inadvertently putting themselves or others in danger. Jacob is a sensory seeker and is almost constantly seeking sensory input by being hyperactive, constantly on the go, touching everything and not understanding spatial boundaries. He has trouble recognizing "danger." While he has made great progress in these last 3 years, he continues to struggle with sensory issues, which ultimately effects his learning and social skills.

Jacob recently had an assessment completed at Brain Balance Center and it was found that he has a brain imbalance. He is using primarily his left brain and has a right brain weakness. He is working off of his primitive reflexes and functioning at a 2 year old level. The lack of communication between the two hemispheres is hindering him. Brain Balance establishes a unique plan for each child that includes sensory motor work, eye tracking, core exercises, academic skill training, healthy nutrition, confidence building and many other activities that work to bolster a child’s developmental deficits. Brain Balance works on treating the whole child and has built a plan that will strengthen the right side of his brain. Jacob is currently signed up for their 3 month program, 3 times a week. I have already seen a difference in his behaviors in the 2 weeks that he has been there.

I have been a single parent since Jacob was born. The tuition for 3 months is $2600 and I wish I had the extra finances to afford it. My only hope is for Jacob to be the best Jacob that he can be. He is extremely intelligent and his sensory issues gets in the way of his success. I would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide. Thank you for taking the time to read his story.
