Jack Doggett's Eagle Scout Project

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jack Doggett and I'm a sophomore at Montgomery Blair High School. I am also a member of Boy Scout Troop 440 and I'm working on my Eagle Project.

My Eagle Project is to create a butterfly garden at my church, Christ Congressional Church, which is located on Colesville Road near Four Corners in Silver Spring.

The garden will provide a sustainable habitat for Monarch butterflies, which in recent years have experienced a drop in their population count during their migration to overwintering sites. The monarch butterfly is in trouble. Their numbers are down 90% of what they were in 1992.

The garden will have two types of plants: those that provide a home for the caterpillars that become monarchs, and plants that provide the nectar that butterflies rely on for their food source. The butterfly garden will include milkweed plants, which are the main source of food for the monarch caterpillar. But these plants are rapidly disappearing, due to the loss of habitat stemming from land development and the widespread spraying of weed killer on the fields where they live.

The money you donate will help pay for the plants, stone border on the sides of the garden, and other supplies and materials.

All it takes is 40 people to donate $10 each (but any donation amount will help). I hope you will make a contribution to my Eagle Project. Thank you for your support.
