The Water Crisis in Flint Michigan

Donation protected
My name is JaPaula Kemp.  I am a native of Flint, Michigan.  All of my immediate family and close friends live in the City of Flint and surrounding areas. It is almost numbing to think this is happening in a city in America. The main reason that it is happening is because many of the city's residents are impoverished. This could/would never happen in affluent areas in our country. They knew. Yes, they knew that this water was contaminated and that it contained lead. Below are some facts about the Water Crisis in Flint.

Michigan is surrounded by some of the largest freshwater lakes there are. However, Flint residents have been forced to use lead contaminated water drawn from the Flint River since 2014.  The City of Flint was receiving their water supply from Detroit which draws water from Lake Huron.  Government officials in charge of managing the city's budget made the decision to switch the water supply to the Flint River in an effort to save money, placing the health and safety of the residents of this town in jeopardy.  After switching the water to the Flint River,  no corrosion testing was performed to ensure that this water remained free of lead. "Corossion Control" helps to prevent lead from aging pipes from seeping into the water supply.

Although lead is toxic for any individual, infants and children have a greater risk for developing health issues and serious problems with cognition. It will take a long time to get the resident of my hometown back to some kind of normalcy. Although the water supply has been switched back to Detroit's system, the damage has already been done (speaking of both irreversible cognitive/health issues and the damage to the water pipes).

In an effort to do something to help the City of Flint, I have started this "GoFundMe" account/page. For those who choose to donate, I thank you in advance and from the bottom of my heart.

How will the money be spent?
All donations will be used to buy bottled water at Sam's Club in Flint, Michigan (and surrounding area Sam's Clubs) for the residents of the City of Flint. Funds will be used to purchase water until it is no longer needed or the funds are exhausted from the purchase of water. If water is no longer needed in the future, any excess money will be donated to help impoverished families in Flint.

How will the water be distributed?
The water will be distributed by volunteers at one or more church's in the community. First Union Baptist Church has agreed to host for distribution.

When we help to lift up others, we then elevate ourselves.
