I've always had a passion for volunteering and helping people and I thought that the United Nations Youth was a fantastic idea for me to do my bit in lending a helping hand to those less fortunate, so I applied knowing that I would be competing for a spot in the Pacific Project with kids from all over Australia. But, two weeks later I got a call from the United Nations informing me that my application was successful and that I was just 1 of 12 students who had made the team, I was shocked and excited at the same time.
I have the chance to travel to East Timor to lend international-Aid, teach in schools, engage with government officials, learn about Timorese culture, represent Australia and help rebuild Timorese society and the challenges that it faces. The Pacific Project is a hands-on mission where we meet the locals directly and gain a better cultural understanding by learning from one another and seeking a common goal of improving the lives of the Timorese People and their wonderful country.
The registration fee is $6350, so I am currently engaging with my local community to gain support that will make my participation possible.
I am very lucky to have this chance to represent my country in helping with international relations and extend a helping hand to the growing nation of East Timor. It's projects like these that make a difference in other peoples lives, especially for developing nations. I would appreciate any support you can offer in my endeavor with the Pacific Project.
As a not for profit organization, UN Youth is unable to provide any monetary support for delegates attending the Pacific Project.
