Help put the ‘is it worth it?’ bus back on the road

Following the success of our first ‘is it worth it?’ bus tour please help with the next phase of the ‘is it worth it?’ campaign.  We made a big impact during our 8 day, 33 stop tour including:

·      Six appearances on UK national TV

·      19 articles in national newspapers in the UK

·      22 articles in local and regional newspapers

·      7 reports on regional TV and radio including the main item on BBC Look North

·      International broadcasters from six countries running TV or radio reports

Our question has become a key element of the Brexit debate and was posed to Theresa after her Mansion House speech and to Philip Hammond by Andrew Marr.  Neither said ‘yes, Brexit is worth it’ replying only that they had to carry out the decision of the British people.  When our leaders show so little enthusiasm for Brexit, the country has every right to ask ‘is it worth it?’

We have successful raised funds for an initial social media campaign, and subject to funding, the is it worth it? bus will keep asking the question as it travels the country with further tours in April, June and September to coincide with:

·      Key Parliamentary debates on the EU Withdrawal Bill

·      The 2nd anniversary of the referendum

·      The party conferences and the crucial vote in Parliament on the terms

Immediately we need £13,000 to pay for a week’s bus tour in late April or early May and we will raise funds for the other tours one at a time.  If we meet this target then the tour goes ahead but if we fall short, the proceeds will roll over to the next tour in June.

Our updated message has yet to be finalised but will headline with Brexit: is it worth it?

Dear Supporters,

Following our last message 13 people have emailed with instructions for the use of donations to the Brexit: is it worth it? bus tour. But that still leaves 43 who have not given us payment instructions to return donations or said they would like their money to go to Represent Us. If you have already responded then please accept our apologies for this follow-up but we can only send a message everyone together. As I explained last time, we have not raised enough to run a tour in June and the next window will be in September. But the GoFundMe page only said we would roll your donations over to June so we need you to decide what to do with the money.

The is it worth it? bus tour was intended to help shift public opinion and came at a great moment when the Government’s economic impact assessments were leaked. Images of the bus are still appearing in the media and we hope it had some impact in dislodging the perception that Brexit was a done deal and in highlighting its costs.

But the campaign which we are all part of has now moved on to an unambiguous demand for a vote on the deal. The People’s Vote campaign and Best for Britain are now making the case that we need a vote with the option of staying in the EU and that demand will be the clear message of the 23rd June march in London. We need to make it the biggest anti-Brexit march so far.

Marching is not enough. Crucially, we have to persuade the Labour leadership that the party will not lose seats if it supports a vote on the deal. Our sister campaign, Represent Us, is running a social media advertising campaign in Labour/Conservative marginals which had a high Leave vote. It aims to persuade soft Leavers and resigned Remainers, in these vulnerable Labour seats, that a ‘final say’ is the sensible way forward given what we now know about Brexit. The first phase is fully funded and underway and we will raise funds for a larger campaign based on feedback from phase one. The campaign is being co-ordinated with Best for Britain’s online strategy and opinion polling in key marginals will be used to influence Labour’s strategy.

We can either return your money now or transfer it to Represent Us if you prefer. Whether another parody of Leave’s bus will be a good campaigning tool in September is not clear at this stage but remains an option. Both a further bus tour, if it happens, and our online campaigns and opinion polling will be managed by Represent Us Ltd.

The simplest, and much preferred, way to return donations is via Paypal but we can also make direct bank transfers. GoFundMe deducted a 3.2% payment fee and reimbursements will reflect this charge.

Please email Philip@isitworthit.org.uk with “Bus tour donation” in the subject line and state:
• Whether you would like your donation returned or have it transferred to Represent Us.
• The relevant email address for Paypal payments or bank details for bank transfers.

Many thanks

Philip Richmond

Dear Supporters,

Thank you all for your donations to another Brexit: is it worth it? bus tour. We have not raised enough to run a tour in June and the next window will be in September. But the GoFundMe page only said we would roll your donations over to June so we are writing to offer to return your money.
