Installing Hope-Craig's Haiti Trip

Donation protected

The Short

I will be travelling with Peterborough Paramedics to Haiti on May 10th, 2016 to install a computer system/Electronic Medical Records software in Hope Grows Haiti’s  compound’s clinic. This system consisting of a computer, tablet, printer and specialized software will allow better care and history tracking of the Haitian patients and speedier treatments.

I need to raise funds for plane ticket/travel expenses, passport, medical/vaccinations etc, as well as cover some home expenses while I'm away. Any funds I receive that are above and beyond what I require will be donated to Hope Grows Haiti.

I thank you very much for your support.

The Long

Hope Grows Haiti's mission is to feed, clothe, house, and educate the children and people of Grand Goave, Haiti.

They have opened 5 schools in the mountain regions, providing an education for 850+ students and their feeding program provides up to 1000 hot meals a week in the impoverished area of Petit Paradis.

They are in the process of constructing a compound that will house a school, a children’s home, and the now finished clinic and lodge for visiting medical and work teams.

And that's where I come in... or rather back in. I have already been working with Gord and Heather, the founders of Hope Grows, for a few months now. I've helped redesign their website, provide support for social media and provide technical help with some computer matters.

I first learned of Hope Grows when my cousin Bill Martin contacted me to see if I would be willing to meet with Gord and Heather and help with their website. I was amazed at the work Hope Grows is doing and have been thrilled to help provide better exposure for this awesome organization.

Bill has recently retired, after 38 years with the Peterborough Paramedics. He has travelled with teams of medics, nurses & doctors to Haiti where on their latest trip helped treat over 400 Haitians in only 2 days.

Now that the new clinic construction is complete, they will have the opportunity to treat even more in the future. Peterborough Paramedics will be travelling back to Hope Grows’ compound in Haiti on May 10th, 2016 and Bill has asked me to accompany them to install a new electronic medical records system in the clinic. This system consisting of a computer, tablet, printer, wireless access points and specialized software will allow better care and history tracking of the Haitian patients and speedier treatments. We will be working on building and configuring the system here in the coming months, but that system will need to be taken to Haiti and setup in the clinic.

Each person that volunteers to travel to Hope Grows’ compound needs to pay their own way, as it’s a missions trip.

I have decided to start this GoFundMe page to help raise the funds I need to travel to Haiti for 1 week, where I will take and install the computer system and equipment that is needed to get them up and running. The funds will go towards mainly my plane ticket, but also to help with other associated costs including, but not limited to: shots/vaccinations, passport, luggage/bags, small laptop/storage, cell service, and lots of sunscreen.

This amount is an estimate of what I will need, and the final total may go up or down. Any amount I receive that is above and beyond what I require will be donated to Hope Grows Haiti.

The medial equipment, software, and hardware that we will be using will be funded by Peterborough Paramedics and Hope Grows. Please also consider donating to either cause to help with these costs as well, as it’s quite expensive.

I will provide as many posts on here as possible, giving updates, pictures of the equipment and EMR system as we get building it, and I hope to be able to provide some sort of update while over in Haiti as well, depending on cell service. Regardless, I will be taking camera equipment with me as well to get lots of pictures and video while there.

I thank you very much for your support.
