my name is iliana azevedo. i am 18 years old and attend dozier-libbey medical high school in antioch ca. in simplest form , in march my medical ethics teacher assigned a project named "Be the Change." the objective of the project was to raise awareness to a problem in the community. as most students chose from a list of topics she provided, such as domestic violence, obesity, etc. i approached her about addressing another issue that was more meaningful to me.  i had been following this mother, Norma Cruz, from Stockton since before Christmas on instagram. her story had simply stuck with me, and was something i was drawn to. i had constantly asked myself what i could do to help. the day her son ,Ethan Cruz, passed away, at four months old, i was assigned the project. deep down i knew it was my calling to make a difference for children and families affected by EB, in honor of her son .  Although i was a stranger to her, i wanted her to understand that her sons death was not in vain. he touched many lives , including my own. as have all persons affected by EB. in conclusion the project is now over and im continuing on my own. i will be hosting a walk-a-thon in memoriam of baby Ethan Cruz and all other children and families affected by EB. it will be held, Saturday, May 23. Check in at 7 : 00 AM and start at 8 : 00 AM at Antioch Middle School.
thankyou so much for your time!
