To Honor and Remember Idaho’s Fallen and Their Families

The first Gold Star Families Memorial Monument and Plaza in the State of Idaho

 Honor. Remembrance. Respect.

Ask any Gold Star Mother – a woman who has lost a son or daughter in military service to the country - what her second-greatest wish is in relation to her child. Beyond wishing she could have her child back, it is that her child’s sacrifice not be forgotten.

A Place to Honor and Remember Idaho's Fallen

There is no place in the State of Idaho that recognizes the sacrifice made by service men and women in laying down their lives for our country, and the loss borne by their families and loved ones, a loss that is felt forever. Gold Star families carry the grief of a loved one’s loss throughout their lives.

The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument and Plaza will be a place of reverence, healing and reflection, a place to properly honor the men and women in the State of Idaho who have given their lives in service to the country, a place to recognize the loss felt by their families and loved ones, and a place for all visitors to reflect upon the price of our freedom.

A Gold Star Mother's Mission - Adopted by The Community
The project is being chaired by Rebecca Webb, a Gold Star Mother who lost her son, Master Sergeant Christopher Webb, in 2017. She is working with a committee of dedicated individuals representing a cross-section of the community. Architectural and planning services are being donated by local firms. Several construction industry firms have pledged much of the labor and materials.

The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument and Plaza committee seeks to raise $275,000 to complete the project. It will sit on half an acre donated to the committee by the developers of a large new multi-use development in Pocatello, Idaho. The developers and related contractors have donated goods and services at an approximate value of $700,000 – the committee is actively soliciting donations to raise the funds necessary to meet cash needs.

Pocatello is a city on the intersection of Interstates I-15 and I-86, home to Idaho State University and many veterans organizations, all of which support the project. It has been endorsed by the cities of Southeast Idaho and the state’s congressional delegation.

A Beautiful and Reverent Setting
The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Plaza in Pocatello will be a beautiful and reverent setting. The monument will be surrounded by 44 gold stars, one for each of Idaho’s counties. Spaced around the edge of the plaza will be five eagle feathers, representing each of the state’s federally recognized Native American tribes. The massive gold star in the center of the plaza will recognize the loss experienced by loved ones when a service member makes the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Finally, the monument itself recognizes and honors the service member who laid down their life.

Our official groundbreaking was held on April 24!

The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Plaza will be located on land donated by Portneuf Development LLC, one of the developers of Pocatello’s new Northgate District, an integrated, multi-use planned community being built on the north end of the city.

The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument committee is working with the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, a national 501(C)3 organization dedicated to placing a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in every state. Funds donated through this page are dedicated specifically to the Idaho monument project. (Any funds generated in excess of the Idaho project's requirements will be used by the Foundation to provide scholarships for Gold Star children and to continue its efforts to build awareness of the challenges faced by American Gold Star families.)
