I Am A Girl

Donation protected
If you’re looking for a way to make a difference, however small, please consider making a donation to my friend Sharitah’s project for Ugandan young women “Am A Girl”.

Am A Girl helps rural girls in Uganda stay in school. There is tremendous stigma and lack of knowledge about menstrual periods here and many girls stay home from school because they have no sanitary supplies. Am A Girl travels to villages and talks to girls, educating them about their bodies, providing them with donated sanitary pads, and – most important – teaching them how to sew their own reusable pads out of cloth, toweling and plastic liners.

Your dollars will go far in Uganda, covering expenses for travel to villages, purchasing absorbent cloths and plastic liners for making reusable menstrual pads, and buying disposable pads to distribute to these young girls. Gofundme donations have already enabled her to purchase two treadle sewing machines - until now all the pads were handsewn which takes a lot of time.

Sharitah Nakimuli has founded this project and has also been selected as participant in the Dream Global Mentoring program run by the DREAM IT Forward Foundation in Atlanta. To learn more, see her Am A Girl page on Facebook:

Thank you for helping Sharitah and her team. In this time of severely cut US aid to Africa, this is a great way to help contribute to making the whole world a better place.
