I Came Within 24 Hours of Losing Polaris, My 4* Eventing Horse!
Like most good things, I have met the unfortunate circumstance of finding my co-owner relationship on my horse coming to an unexpected and immediate end. The transporter was instructed by my co-owner to remove my horse unless the financial demand was met. It was nightmare situation that I hope to never face again.
Somehow I was able to get short term loans and scratch together enough money to stop any sale. However, I won’t be able to keep him unless I come up with more money. The only way I can think of to do this is to start a Go Fund me campaign that will ensure that Larry stays with me forever!
Some say the last mile is always the hardest. I’ve certainly found that to be true. Shortly after I qualified for the 2018 Four-Star Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event last fall, Ann Figge Nawn, the owner of my horse, Polaris, tragically passed away after seven years of remarkable mentorship.
Ann was an extraordinary person who always generously provided the moral and financial support we needed to progress on the difficult and expensive but infinitely rewarding path we chose. When she died, many of you offered a touching level of support. It’s meant the world to me, and it’s helped us to move forward.
In the wake of Ann’s death, it became clear to me that I needed to come up with a plan for Polaris—quickly. A longtime client offered to support us. I jumped at the opportunity, since the alternative was losing Polaris, aka Larry, and all the progress we had fought so hard for. We agreed that we would own him together, and she assured me that she never wanted me to lose my heart horse again. My investment of seven years’ blood, sweat, and tears would be my share in this partnership. Obviously this arrangement has not worked out.
The most important thing is that Larry is now safe in my barn but my only chance of keeping him there is to raise as much as possible to pay back the short term emergency loans. Every dollar helps.
