WestSide Kalispell Community Mural -

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Thomas, and I'm elated for this opportunity to paint a mural on West Center Street and 5th Avenue West in Kalispell!
We've seen a few old murals go, and had a few new ones pop up, let's keep em coming!
Thanks for your interest

The landlord and city have granted me permission to paint the wall based on a rough draft I created of layered mountains, animal silhouettes, and local culture.
Friends have offered their time and equipment, along with a local muralist named Clark with mural experience. Ideally I'd like the actual painting of the wall to be a weekend community event with a bbq and music. Families would be encouraged to dip their hands in shades of yellow, orange, and green to create the grass at the bottom of the mural

In order to accomplish the goal:

Prepping -
Powerwash the walls, which can be mostly be done with tall ladders, some will require a scaffold, which we have access to. This will take a day.

Priming -
The wall needs to be primed, we estimate 20 gallons of primer to cover the north and upper east- facing wall, which takes up half a block! The primer paint costs roughly $50 for a 5 gallon bucket. This will take a day to complete.

Tracing -
The images will be traced in sections from a digital projector using a usb. Once everything is traced, then it's time to fill it all in. This may take a few days!?

Final Painting -
The funnest part, fill in the blanks! We'll need appx seven 5 gallon buckets. The final exterior paint will cost roughly $200 per 5 gallon based on friends that work at local paint stores.
We'll also need appx five 1 gallon buckets of assorted shades for the polygonal sky. I imagine this will take at least a weekend, probably two.

The final color scheme is still in the works, I'll work on a few options to choose from, and hold a vote on Facebook to come to a final decision.
I want the mural to be easy on the collective eye!
The pic below is just to give an idea of the mural, not the finished version, still getting feedback from folks and tinkering.

Costs -

Primer - Four 5 gallon buckets - $200
Exterior - Seven 5 gallon buckets - $1400
Sky Colors - Five 1 gallon buckets - $200
Lacquer Paint - One 5 gallon bucket - $100
Paint Supplies (plastic, tape, masks, rollers, brushes) - $100

I estimate $2000 to cover the paint costs.
I'll be doing the work in the evenings, days off, and weekends, anyone is welcome to join.
Don't worry, I'm an experienced painter, and I'm comfortable on tall ladders and scaffolding.
The lacquer paint would be a final coat on the bottom section to make easy clean up of potential vandalism.

Should all go well, we'll replace this old chipped paint with something a bit more vibrant for the summer!

Thanks for checking in,
and possibly contributing,
or sharing on social media!

Sincerely,
Thomas
