Pepper Farming Venture in Africa
Donation protected
The purpose of this campaign is to raise $750 in capital to cover the startup and initial operating costs for an organic pepper farming business in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The project, dubbed “Money Nar Bush Agricultural Organization,” was conceived by Andrew Nevi, Peter Shire, and Mustapha Cole (director of the Sierra Leone Liberty Group). Three ambitious entrepreneurs with big dreams! Their team is pictured above.
According to their well-researched business plan, they chose pepper as their crop of choice for several reasons: It is fairly easy to grow; yields are high; there is relatively little competition in the area; high consumption among locals; the plant's hardiness in semi-arid environments; and the growing season lasts year-round.
After clearing the land and completing the initial planting stage, the team expects the first harvest to take place in six months. Sales and distribution of the product will be achieved through distribution channels along the newly constructed Kenema Koindu Highway, which is adjacent to the expected location of the farming operation.
Agriculture is Sierra Leone's main economic driver, accounting for more than half of the country's GDP. Nearly two-thirds of the population relies on subsistence agriculture to survive.
Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. The GDP per capita is less than $800, and over half of the population lives below the international poverty line of less than $2 per day.
Your donation, no matter how small, can make a lasting impact on the lives and futures of these young entrepreneurers and their families. They have the drive to succeed and the will to persevere. All they need is an opportunity! Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
