Querencia Studio is a multidisciplinary creative company with sustainability as the focal point of each of its endeavors. With social and environmental responsibility at the forefront of our projects, we aim to creatively solve problems facing industries across the globe. Such problems include humanitarian crises and environmental degradation. As the fashion industry is second only to the oil industry as one of the world’s most polluting industries, we made developing environmentally sustainable alternatives in product development and design our first mission. This has been our primary focus since inception just three months ago.

Querencia Studio has already developed and released multiple fashion projects in collaboration with the sustainable apparel company, Recover Brands. Recover Brands uses a 50-50 blend of recycled cotton and fibers from plastic bottles to create 100% recycled garments. These garments are manufactured in several locations the most prominent being a 100% biomass powered factory in Guatemala. The manufacturing process allows for a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 66% reduction in energy consumption and 55% reduction in water consumption.

The first special project, entitled 2020 VISION, was released on Earth Day, April 22, 2016, as a marker of the United Nations opening signatures on the Paris Agreement –the world's first ever climate agreement.

It was expected to take years to be in effect. However, world leaders were pushed to prioritize the Paris agreement and it became effective on November 4, 2016. On that day, the follow up project, "2020 VISION.2: NOT FOR SALE" was released. Both projects saw 20% of profits donated back to The Island School, a semester program based on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. Sustainability is at the heart of everything taught at The Island School. The guiding question students are asked to consider is, “How can humans live well in a place?” The Island School has had a profound impact on the lives of our cofounders, Tegan Maxey and Devin Gilmartin. Tegan grew up on the island of Eleuthera and has worked at the school and its neighboring research facility, The Cape Eleuthera Institute. Devin is an alumnus of the school's semester program and winner of the school's highest honor, The Behique Award.

On August 25th, 2016, Querencia Studio released its debut collection; this collaboration with Recover Brands featured a range of graphic t-shirts, long sleeves and hoodies. These garments are under our "Q" label, the affordable line that aims to create sustainable garments at a price that will compete with fast fashion chains without the social injustice and environmental destruction.

The "Studio" line, set to debut on Earth Day of 2017, is the elevated side of Querencia Studio. This line is geared towards garment innovation through textiles, with a special focus on harvesting invasive and harmful species to process into fabric. It is intended to compete with high fashion labels that propose luxury as an abundance of rare materials made by skillful artisans. "Studio" uses the same approach to the same artisanal construction of its garments, but reevaluates the commonly accepted definition of luxury and proposes the efficiency and sustainability of a high functioning and multi purpose garment to be appreciated equally as such.

"Studio" is lead by Kate Walz, the critically acclaimed designer who has presented collections at international fashion weeks from Omaha, Nebraska to Paris, France.

The third branch of Querencia Studio is Q Agency, a sustainable branding, product development and consulting service that brings the principles of Querencia Studio to new audiences. It does so by bringing sustainability to the forefront of companies that are looking to further their efforts in protecting the environment and operate more efficiently.

As Querencia Studio continues to grow, we hope to open new branches of operation in fields such as architecture, interior design, aerospace engineering and space travel; all with the guiding essential goal to maximize efficiency and output while operating sustainably, consequently leaving minimal impact on the environment without compromising the quality of our final product.
