Housing for Gene

Donation protected
Help Needed: Housing a person who is unsheltered for two weeks.

I met Gene when he came into a local church after being released from the hospital; he was hit by a car on his bicycle. I was able to put him up for the night and with a little extra for food.

Later that week, my friend Yolanda began posting about meeting a veteran who needed housing until his first check came in on November 1st; thank god his social worker is fighting for him. Yolanda put him up for a few nights with fresh warm clothes and food.

Gene has been sleeping outdoors off and on for the last several weeks. He’s very close to getting into his own space, he’s finally receiving care for the VA, and he’s excited to have the opportunity to work once he has his own apartment.

Crunching some numbers with the staff at Gateway and Thrifty motels, it’s going to be about $500 total to provide gene housing, plus an additional $75 - $100 for food.

I’m putting out some feelers for folks who would be able to sponsor a single night until the weekly rated rooms open up on Monday. If you’re unable to cover the $50 for the whole room but would like to contribute, you can donate $5, $10, $20; whatever you're comfortable in giving.

Gene is so so so close to getting into his own housing, he’s finally receiving the care he needs. With the weather getting colder, we're worry about his health.

If you’re interested in sponsoring a night, or donating to this gofund me on any level, thank you for helping us support Gene until he's into his own housing.
