DNC National Delegate #Berner

Attention to all fellow educators, friends and family, mugwumps and policy wonks alike: On May 21st, I was  afforded the distinct honor as an elected delegate to the  WA Democratic National Convention this summer in Philadelphia. Since time immemorial, I have invariably held forth to the various spheres of my respective leisures, academic foci, and community infuences a firm and unabashed progressive resolve for the very instruments  of social justice and and human dignity epitomized by Bernie Sanders in his revolutionary campaign.

As a teacher of AP U.S. Government and Politics and Civics (among other subjects) at a low-income high school in Eastern Washington, I am daily tasked with the extraordinary responsibiities for cultivating the minds of a piviotal new generation of young voters. I am proud to say that by my estimate, as well as that of my students and colleagues, I have eked out some notable successes not only as a passionate and dedicated teacher in the public school system, but for having inspired a spirit of passion, civic responsibility, and critical consciousness within a notoriously apathetic "always-on" generation of digitally-desensitized young adults.

I am politically-minded, and have plans of introducing some new caucuses to the upcoming conventions, and I will continue to vie for committee positions of influence where my voice can be heard. And although I have few inhibitions fighting for policy that I believe in, I have discovered a decided discomfiture within my nature when it comes to humble requests for money.

To be sure, I am not the type of person comfortably disposed towards the supplicatory trappings involved in fundraising. Nevertheless, in order to make it to Philadelphia in order to deliver a vote on behalf of several thousands of voters to whom I have been entrusted, I am left with no other option but to enlist the support of those who care enough to support me, or my cause, or preferably both.

To help fund this costly endeavor, I need your help. Every little bit counts. The DNC estimates that it will cost an average of $4,000 for delegates to fulfill thier duties in Philadelphia,  so I'm hoping to raise at least $3000 to avoid going into debt! This includes approximately $1,300 for hotel accommodations as the DNC requires delegates to spend the week at their reserved hotel due to the heightened "National Security" status of this potentially dangerous convention. Airfare is around $2000 when all is said and done. There is then of course transportation to and fro the various pre-convention parleys, as well as the upcoming State Convention that will be taking place this weekend that comes with its own additional set of expenses for transportation and hotel accommodations.

I am in the process of thinking creative ways to compensate my donors, past and prospective alike, for their remarkable generosity and overall selfless and thoughful dignity. Whether these come to you in the form of postcards from the convention in Philly, trendy pins or buttons, or any other such sort trinkets, gimcracks, gewgaws, and bibelots, I promise to do my best at conveying what is truly a profound gratitude for all that everyone is doing to help me realize this incredible opportunity that will be passed down through generations and may have the effect of jumpstarting broader goals that I have in the realm of policy making for future campaigns.

With every best wish,
