Wanda Needs A Skookum Computer!

Dear friends, family, community and possibly strangers

 

I am in need of a computer to do my volunteer and personal work. I am really feeling the crunch right now! My disposable income is very limited during this time of my life or I would run out and purchase a brand spanking new computer already! 

 

~A little background~

 

I do volunteer work for a spiritual community in the area of Communications. I am Currently attempting to work with a team to create a diagram/architecture for a private social platform. I also draft reports and am trying to create a News Letter for some of these communications. There is a lot of work in many areas of this volunteer position needing attention. I also handle some social media updates for a friend. I shop photos, create banners and make posters for my musician friend. I also am an artist and love to design graphics and create jewelry/visuals with these designs or donate logos to good causes. I use an open source program called PIXLR to design – free and on the web – a pretty good Photoshop alternative. If I had Adobe products I’d really be set! I am looking at returning to school to obtain a Communication Design Diploma. All of these things require a pretty darn good computer that is capable of processing and keeping up with these demands. 

 

~The Situation – Computer deaths~

 

I’ve limped along for the past few years with 2006-7 laptops - three in total - each one meeting a frozen death after putting up a valiant fight. I pushed and pulled them as far as they would go. I bought my first MacBook in 2006. It left me about a year ago. I used an old 2007 PC for a wee spell but it was on its way out fast. The one I am using now is a 2007 MacBook and I struggle with it every day. It cannot function in the Google Drive area, cannot function in Mail Chimp and takes a fit if I try to use PIXLR. Every page I visit declares it’s warning “Your browser is no longer supported. Please upgrade your browser” and I silently respond “If only I @#$%&^% could!” I cannot upgrade any further.

 

~The goal – and alternatives~

 

I would absolutely be thrilled if I could purchase a new MacBook Pro!!

These are not cheap by any standards. For a smaller 13 inch with lower processor, memory and graphics capabilities the price starts around the $1000+ range (Canadian Dollars) and for the 15 inch with higher quality processor and graphics it runs up to $2500+

 

Themz no small potatoes.

 

I am setting the goal for this Campaign at $2500 but let me be clear:

Whatever we can raise is what we can raise and I will purchase what I can with this. Even if it is only a cheap computer it will have newer operating systems and would be able to have a decent up-to-date browser capable of allowing me to use some online tools. A girl can dream big and be grateful for anything that comes her way ☺
