Hidden Figures Screening for Girls

Donation protected
Between 1973 and 2012, 22,172 white men received a Ph.D. in physics. In this same time span, only 66 black women achieved the same Ph.D. Across the sciences, mathemathics and engineering, the numbers remain bleak for black women. To break into a field dominantly white and male is an incredibly difficult task for black women.

That is why the movie Hidden Figures is so important. Hidden Figures tells the untold true story of the brave and resilient black women who faced both sexism and racism in an attempt to defy odds and contribute to help America win the space race against the Soviet Union.

Through this fundraiser, my goal is to host a screening for 350 girls to see the movie-- particularly girls from low-income neighborhoods whose parents likely cannot afford to take them to see the movie. I want to ensure that these girls are not left out. The solutions to the world's greatest problems are trapped in the minds of brilliant and disadvantaged young peoples.

I want to inspire girls to dream big, beyond the misogyny, the racism, and the hyper-sexualized messages associated with their gender. I want young girls to hear and see the stories of the brave women who came before them and to understand that they stand on the shoulders of great giants.

Join me and donate to support a young girl to see the movie. A movie seat including popcorn, drinks, and transportation will be $15 per girl.

Let's work together to channel the energy from the women's marches across the country and fuel the great minds of tomorrow.
