Imagine No Malaria

The First United Methodist Church - Cathedral of the Rockies in Boise, Idaho is hosting a 5K fun run entitled "Faster than the Pastor" on Friday, May 13, at 6:30 pm at Ann Morrison Park in Boise, Idaho.  We are raising funds to fight Malaria, a disease that is 100% preventable, but kills millions every year.  

Malaria is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito.  In Sub-Saharan Africa, malaria continues to kill a child every 2 minutes.  When an infected mosquito bites a person, the parasite enters the bloodstream and heads for the liver, where it multiplies, eventually attacking red blood cells. Left untreated, symptoms eventually advance to organ failure. Nearly 90 percent of malaria’s victims are children under the age of 5 and pregnant women.  There is currently no cure, but Malaria is 100% preventable by improving the ways people fight the disease using bed nets, providing access to diagnostic tests and medicine, draining standing water, and improving sanitation.  Help us prevent this disease by donating here.  All funds donated to this site will go directly to prevention efforts to end this disease.  Every dollar helps!
