Help the Beck Family

Donation protected
My name is Heidi, and I am a mother of three and I write to ask for your help tonight. I have just recently learned of the heartbreaking reality of an Oceanside family who needs our help immediately. My daughter Lucy (13 years old) has been besties with twins, Taylor and Sydney (in the picture taken today) since they were all in first grade together. When the girls were in fourth grade, Julie, the twin's mom and my friend, passed away from cancer. It was a devastating loss for the twins, their brother, Kyle and their father, Matt. It was for all of us.

Recently, their dad, Matt has deteriorated rapidly from complications with diabetes. Last year, he lost his leg to a necessary amputation and has now lost 75% of his eye sight. The girls are in 8th grade, which is already a hard time to be a kid. Their older brother (10th grade) is doing his best to help, but it is all so much and overwhelming him. And in a corrective note to my email, Matt's 83 year old mother who has been living with them since Julie passed, made a error in a bank transaction that depleted their immediate funds. I speak with Matt daily, and he clarified with me that he is still care-taking for his mother, she lives with them, and she was only trying to help. Nonetheless, the error came at a critical moment for them.

The condo they are living in is now being sold by the owner, and they have to move by September 1 - yes, THIS September 1st. They have nowhere to go and no resources to help them transition to a new home. Matt went back to the emergency room today due to another infection in his stump, and is unable to do much of anything because of his condition. This family needs some help; I've never done something like this, and I want to HELP not create more chaos for them.

They need at least $5000 immediately to help cover the cost of moving their family of five to another home in Oceanside (we drove around today looking at possible homes for them, and thankfully have a few good, affordable options.) In addition to the moving costs, Matt needs to have an immediate surgery on his eyes, and Kyle now needs to get to driving school because Matt is unable to drive. They have a car, but it has been sitting in the parking space since Matt had his leg amputated, and will need repairs to get it running. The money you give will help to pay for these critical needs to keep this family together and moving forward with dignity.

The kids have had to deal with so much with the death of their mother and the health issues with their dad. And what I noted most in my recent interactions with them is that they are all so afraid of what is going to happen to them. They just don't know that everything will work out for them; they just can't believe that it will be okay. I asked them the seemingly impossible thing - to try not to worry - because it is heartbreaking to see the twins and their brother Kyle trying to figure out what to do and to see the fear in their faces that they won't make the right decisions! Kyle and his twin sisters are having to make adult decisions, make adult phone calls, and deal with adults to get done what needs to get done. And they are still kids!

I still believe in us - in community and the willingness of humanity to help those who need it. Let's show the Beck Family that they have loving kindness around them and step up to help them, shall we? I can't make much of a difference alone, but with all of you, we could really help this family. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! Please donate what you can today, because I believe that together, we can give these kids hope in the belief that good things will come their way. And that they are deserving of it.

I'd like to extend a very special Thank You to my dear friend Tonya Ohrel (one of Julie's BFFs) for informing me of the family's reality and for everything she is doing to help - she has a cape AND wings, I just know it! Please help if you can. If not, I understand, really I do.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. And the Beck Family thanks you, too.
