Travel/Rent for grad school at USC

School is very important to me. Especailly given my background. I had a very tough childhood. In foster homes, and growing up in an environment that was rife with drugs and abuse. I was determined to break the cycle and go to college for acting.

Well, life happens and I was unable to fulfill that goal after high school. I became homeless at age 20 and found myself sleeping on stairwells or bouncing from friends couches.  Fast-forward  through many years of financial struggles, ups and downs, etc.

In 2010 I re-evaltuated my life and decided I was finally ready to go to college and get my degree in film studies. I graduated in 2013 and have tried every year since to get into one of the top graduate programs in the U.S. I was waitlisted by AFI and Columbia the last two years. I was even waitlisted by USC but the fortunate part of being waitlisted by USC is that they automatically accept you into the following semester if you do not get off the waitlist.

So it is with great excitement that I can say I am on my way to the University of Southern California for my MFA! Orientation starts January 7th 2016! After such a tough life, to be here is an amazing feat. If only you knew the true depth of struggles and hardships I had to overcome. The fact that I am positive, happy, inspiring and still on my path to success is truly mind boggling to people that know my true story.

When I interviewed for the graduate film studies at Columbia University, by June Stein and Malia Scotch Marmo, June said to me that she was proud of me because of where I am in my life now.   She knew the struggles of my past because I was very open in my narrative statement.

People have their opinions of higher education, but for me, it truly is important because  I continue to learn how to be the best at what I do and  I can give back  to the community  by training, teaching and mentoring other filmmakers.

I want to be the best  Visual story teller and  director I can be.  I want to teach others how to be the best storytellers they can be.  So I am off to USC!

I am currently seeking a little help from my friends to get me to LA and safely into an apartment.

I will be driving to LA December 20th in order to be ready for my orientation on Jan. 7th. I currently do not have a place to stay as I am not sure how to afford it at the moment.

If anyone has been to LA, it cost about 1500 to live in a decent place as a roommate. If I wanted a place on my own it would be about 2000 or more. So any help from you wonderful people would be appreciated.

I give back as much as I can to the community, friends, family, and eager filmmakers, but today I need a little help myself.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I know it's a tough time too because of the holidays and such so it's truly appreciated.
