Here’s a funny story about getting caught off guard by a child’s audacious innocence. The other day we had a knock on our door, and  I opened the door to find one of our neighbors asking if this was the house where the cupcakes should be delivered. Far be it from us to reject cupcake deliveries, but we didn’t know what he was talking about.

Flash rewind to a few days ago, when our ten year old told us she was going to get a “petition” signed from our neighbors with one of her little friends, and we couldn’t really figure out what she was talking about, but we decided to let her go anyway. What harm could it do?

It turns out, as our neighbor informed us, she was asking for collections to help the homeless and told them to bring them to our house. We couldn’t believe it.

So they later dropped off some baked goodies that we took down to the Family Assistance Program - Our House facility for homeless youth, 11-17-year-olds. They were happy to accept our donations, and we’re looking to volunteer and regularly donate, inspired by our ten-year-old.

We were very touched by what she and her friend did - and all on their own too.

Our House has a list of essential items that they need on a regular basis like shampoo, soap, underwear, school supplies. I want to donate as many things on their list as possible. And because it's the holidays, I want to be able to provide each child at the center with a gift card for Christmas. Please help me to bring a little piece of joy to these kids during the holidays. Thank you.
