Help Lydia Share Her Story

Donation protected
Last month, I saw a non-profit's casting call for child models with visible differences. As her parents, we want her to have positive encounters with her disability. I submitted Lydia's photo and she was one of 8 children from around the US selected.  Over the past four years, we’ve told her not to hide, but to proudly display her differences and show the world that differences aren’t scary, they are beautiful. This will give her the chance to do that on a national platform.

Next week, Lydia will model in the non-profit's national campaign in an effort to "empower people living with disabilities by advocating for inclusive imagery." She will also share aspects of her story to educate others. The non-profit believes "that there is nothing more impactful than hearing and sharing each other's stories. This exchange brings awareness, inspiration, connection and the opportunity to be seen." We believe no one is a better fit than Lydia.

When I told Lydia that she was selected to model in this campaign, she said, "That's a great idea! People need to see that lucky fins aren't scary."

This modeling trip and gig is completely unpaid. We'd be appreciative of friends and family who want to sponsor Lydia's trip to San Francisco to somewhat offset the $3500 in costs for travel.

For sponsorships of $15 or more, we will send you a 5x7 print of one of Lydia's watercolors as a thank you.
