Matt Tomlanovich Memorial Fund
Matt Tomlanovich passed away on the morning of October 19th, 2014.
Originally this fund was set up in the hopes that it would be used for assistive technology to help him after his paralysis. However, his condition declined. In keeping with the spirit of our original mission, funds donated here will be given to support his family and allay the direct and indirect costs from his hospitalization, along with funeral costs. A portion may also be used to memorialize Matt so that he may be remembered for his personal and professional achievements.
Please do not send condolences through this page. All funds are automatically deposited in a bank account for the family, but messages do not reach them directly. Condolences may be sent to his page on Caringbridge.org (search for Matt Tomlanovich) or directly to the family.
OUR ORIGINAL MISSION STATEMENT:
Our dear friend Matt Tomlanovich has been in the hospital since April 3rd, 2014 as a result of a serious MRSA infection in his spinal cord. Since May 14 he has been in a facility receiving rehab and has been making good progress. Though (at the time that this is being written) there is hope that he will recover more use of his limbs, it is probable that he will be a quadriplegic.
Assistive technology for quadriplegia can run anywhere from $18,000 to $400,000 so the financial goal set for this group is a very rough estimate of the cost of getting Matt the machines he would need in order to once again be creating and working with also some additional funds considered for the practical costs incurred to his wife and two teenage sons during this difficult time.
Why all the talk about hyenas?
Those who were Facebook friends with Matt or fellow writers were familiar with his "Hyena Haikus." It expresses Matt's playful spirit and silly humour, and is a theme for the upcoming fundraiser for Matt.
Please consider attending the fundraiser for Matt!
It will be at the Margo Jones Theater in the Magnolia Lounge at Fair Park at 8:00PM on August 20, 21, and 22 (that's a Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.)
Here's the address, and if they try to charge you for parking please inform them you're headed to the Magnolia Lounge:
1121 1st Ave
Dallas, TX 75210
Updates on Matt and his wife Claudia can be found at his page on caringbridge.org
Thank you to everyone who has donated, for all your kind words, and most of all for your love. Your donations were not in vain; I'm sure that there are remaining expenses to be covered and bills to be paid. Your help over the past few months has meant the world to Claudia, and has done a lot to ease the burden of this terrible thing that happened.
The event that we hosted in August was not just a fundraiser, it was a celebration of a man we all love. Every piece that was performed on that stage was something unique that Matt would have loved to see had he been able to attend. Every piece was presented with love. Please continue to support new works and emerging artists in your communities, at the Margo Jones or elsewhere, in honor of Matt.
