Fund Spanish Film Club at Tyler!

Tax deductible

The Spanish Film Club is a volunteer after school program at Tyler Elementary School - a Title I Dual Language Public School in Southeast Washington, DC - where kids produce a movie in Spanish!

Every week Marta Jimenez, Spanish Immersion Pre-K 4 teacher at Tyler, and her team of dedicated volunteer teachers and filmmakers lead the students in singing, dancing and acting instruction.

The Spanish Film Club is inspired by the belief that creative tools are critical for children’s language acquisition as well as an empowering and unifying tool to celebrate bilingual education and diversity in their communities.

Listen to Marta and some of the amazing kids talk about why they love the club!
The students come from diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds and the program has built lasting friendships and collaborative working relationships within the group - the foundation for positive community building and mutual understanding.

Last year the Spanish Film Club produced the film "Annie". The students at Tyler Elementary were so inspired by the film that the program tripled in size this year. Not only did the participants improve their spanish conversation and comprehension but inspired a new appreciation for the art of filmmaking and performance.

Check out a clip from the 2016 film:

This year the group of 65 kids are producing the film, "La Clase" an adaptation of "Grease"  that focuses on the issue of bullying and performed entirely in Spanish. The film will premiere on the big screen at Miracle Theater on May 30th, 2017 at 6pm. Help us make this dream a reality!

Here is a clip of Spanish Film Club participants at a recording session:

This is the only afterschool club of its kind that offers children the opportunity to speak Spanish out of their classrooms while inspiring their creative talent.
