Help for the Zarour Family

Meet the Zarour Family.

Ahmad(39), Rasha (31), Khadiga(14), Dina(13), Sedra(11), El Bari(8), and El Gane(7) fled their city of Homs, Syria after much of it was under siege and destroyed.  They first went to Jordan, where they spent two years waiting to come  to the United States and find a permanent place to call home.  They arrived here in San Diego in November.  Over the past two months, Ahmad and his wife, Rasha have done their best to create a home for their five children.  They lived in one room in a motel for the first few weeks and have recently settled into a very small 2 bedroom apartment in El Cajon.

On a Friday afternoon, this warm and gracious family welcomed us with open arms and lots of tea and coffee.  Their tiny apartment is very sparsley furnished with used couches and a cardboard box for a coffee table, yet this did not stop us from seeing the love that they have for eachother and hope for a better future.  They showered us with generosity while in their home.  The children were so hospitable and friendly.  It was beautiful to watch our children and theirs playing together, immediately speaking the international language of friendship.

Ahmad is a highly skilled `finish carpenter by trade and hopes to find work as soon as he can to support his family.  Rasha focuses her time on taking care of their five children, ages 7-14. It has been very tough for them to find work and create a social network, as they do not speak English yet and they do not have a car.

All seven of them live in a small apartment and are currently depending on meager public and private non-profit resources and support to begin their new lives here in America.

Danny and I are so grateful to have met them through the non profit organization Heart4Refugees here in San Diego.  They are our "adopted" family and our friends.  We plan to support them with friendship and love, in addition to providing for as many material needs as we can.

This family has been through unimaginable hardship and I feel compelled- as a mother, as an American, as a human to do something to help them.  I am asking for your help too.

If you can make a donation, I would be very grateful.  Their list of needs is very basic:
Cleaning Supplies
Personal Hygiene Supplies
2 Sets of Bunk Beds (currently all 5 children sleep on the floor in one small bedroom)
Small Coffee Table
Linens
Lamps
A Car

Literally ANYthing you can give will help this lovely family.

How can you support?

1.  Pray for them.
2.  Monetary donation that will go to providing the above items
3.  You can purchase something directly for the family via this Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/ref=cm_reg_rd-upd?ie=UTF8&id=1VRA2U3I6UGRI&type=giftlist
The items will be shipped to our house and we will deliver them to the family on your behalf.
4.  If you are in SD and you have any items listed above, please email me and I will be happy to pick them up from you!

I will update this as we learn more about their needs.
Thank You!
-Angela and Danny McNamara

Additional Information:

1.  Who am I?  My name is Angela McNamara and I am working with this family as a volunteer on behalf of a non profit organization called Heart4Refugees.  This organization is based in San Diego and seeks to ensure that the 1000 Syrian refugees that have been resettled here are supported during their transition to new lives in America.

2.  Where am I from? San Diego

3.  How do I know the Zarour Family?  They are my "adopted" family.  We found out about the opportunity to work with this organization through a friend at church and quickly got paired up with the Zarour's to help meet their needs.

4.  How will the funds be used?  We will be using the funds recieved from this campaign to meet the immediate needs listed above: toiletries, cleaning supplies, 2 sets of bunk beds.  If we are able to raise enough, we would like to help them find a car so that they can have reliable transportation.

5.  Will funds be given directly to the family?  No.  Heart4Refugees strongly recommends that these funds be used on the family's behalf rather than giving them directly to the family (For example, it is better to purchase bunk beds and deliver them to the family instead of just giving them the cash to do it themselves).  This way, volunteers can coordinate to ensure the maximum number of families get what they need.
Because of this, I will be withdrawing the funds directly on their behalf.  Every dollar raised by this campaign will be put toward purchasing the items listed above.   These items will be delivered by us during our regular visits as the funds become available.  If an excess amount of money is raised, it will be put toward a reserve account to help the family with ongoing expenses.
