Help Get Betsy Back On Her Feet

Hi,

We are Ali and Molly.

We are Betsy McCann's kids, along with our brother, Colin. 

Our Mom, Betsy, a full time flight attendant and part-time fitness instructor, is the most generous person we know. She has a heart of gold, a sharp sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. She is a giver. 

On October 7th, Hurricane Matthew slammed into the coast of Florida and crashed into our hometown of St. Augustine, flooding its streets and homes. Our Mom's condo was destroyed overnight. Wind damage caused the roof to deteriorate and the rain to pour in. Her ceilings collapsed, leaving heaping piles of wet dirt, insulation, and puddles of water over everything she owned. Between the celling and the flooding, there is nothing left to salvage but the bones of the structure. Our mom's home is lost. 

Devastation hit again, this time harder, when we learned that insurance would NOT cover any of her losses and is  legally passing 100% of the financial burden onto her. This news has knocked us all down and left our Mom feeling lost.

Our community of friends in Florida have wrapped their arms around our Mom, offering her a bed, a meal, a truck, etc. We are forever grateful. 

Now, we are asking for financial help to get our Mom back on her feet, to find her a place to rent, and begin to put funds together to quickly strip down her condo to the studs before mold completely takes over and ruins the possibility of rebuilding one day. Once that happens, we are looking for funds for a simple rebuild... ceilings, drywall, flooring, and some furniture.  Asking for help doesn't come easily, but we are reminded over and over again that community is our best shot at getting our Mom back on her feet and into a warm home. 

Finally, we know we are not the only ones who were hit by this hurricane. We feel so lucky to have our Mom and her health. Our hearts go out to our town of St. Augustine, and so many other communities affected, both in Haiti and along the East coast of the U.S.
