Whaley Bridge Matters are a local group, set up initially to oppose the building on land south of Macclesfield Road, Whaley Bridge; situated only 100 meters from the Peak District National Park. This Greenfield site, which borders Linglongs Road and includes the Midshires Way, was originally considered by High Peak Borough Council as potential development land for 83 houses as part of the Local Plan. This site, rejected from the Local Plan in early 2013, was suddenly bought back in to the Local Plan in December 2013 and almost immediately Gladman Developments submitted an outline application for 107 houses on the site.

May 2015, Gladman's application for outline planning permission was approved (without access) by High Peak Borough Council (HPBC). The outline planning permission was approved with 31 conditions.

Following the outline application approval Whaley Bridge Matters submitted a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) over HPBC's handling of the outline planning application. In July 2016, the LGO found in favour of the complaintent, ruling: "The council's initial evaluation of the application in August 2014 was significantly flawed" and ordered HPBC to apologise for the time, trouble and unnecessary expense to which the complainants were put.

In May 2017 Barratt Homes submitted a reserved matters application for 107 dwellings and associated works and since then has requested multiple amends to the outline application to meet their own needs.

Whaley Bridge Matters now feel there are legal rounds to challenge this planning application and need financial support to cover legal fees.

Whaley Bridge Matters are not NIMBYS but a group of concerned residents who are worried that this application is unsafe, ill-thought-out, and will have major negative impacts on Whaley Bridge.
